Imphal, August 18:
Nagaland Chief Minister, SC Jamir said all efforts are on two trace the two truck drivers, kidnapped by unknown persons from Dimapur on August 10.The assurance was given to Union Minister of State for Food Processing Th Chaoba Singh in response to a letter written by the latter.
Jamir termed the incident of looting of the trucks as unfortunate but said that the trucks were moving very late in the night, which is not advisable.
Adequate security is being provided to Manipur bound vehicles and the Nagaland police have been suitably instructed in this regard, he said adding that there have been no further incidents thereafter.
The Chief Minister said vehicular traffic including Manipur bound vehicles are moving without any obstruction in his State, saying there is no blockade in the State.
The Chief Minister also said that there is no economic blockade in Nagaland.
Stating that a wrong impression has been created with regard to the economic blockade Jamir said the blockade is taking place within Manipur.
As a result a large number of Manipur trucks are stranded in Nagaland near the inter-State border as they are unable to enter Manipur due to the blockade.
"We have been repeatedly requesting the Government of Manipur to escort these stranded trucks to their destinations in Manipur, but the response so far has been sluggish.
You may also like to take up the matter with the State Government.
We are providing necessary security to these stranded vehicles," Jamir told Chaoba.
Chaoba, in his letter, appraised Jamir of the kidnapping of the truck drivers and looting of the trucks and urged the Nagaland Government to provide adequate security to the trucks stranded in Nagaland due to the economic blockade.
Meanwhile, the AMSU has made a fervent appeal to Governor Ved Marwah to secure the release of the two truck drivers who were abducted by unidentified persons near Dimapur.
It criticized the Governor, Centre and Nagaland Government for their inaction.
