Even as Lorries including mini Tatas suspended their service in Manipur from today tourist buses will stop their service outside the State from August 21 if the two truck drivers abducted in Nagaland are not released unharmed by August 20.In a joint statement five transport bodies said trucks escorted to Imphal yesterday could unload the goods tomorrow.
Transport sources said more than 60 trucks were damaged when they were pelted stones while coming to Imphal yesterday.
Some drivers also sustained injuries.
Manipur Truck Owners Welfare Association, Manipur Local Truck Owners Association, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union, All Manipur Drivers Welfare Association and All Manipur Mini Tata Owners cum Drivers Welfare Association today reviewed the situation arising out of the kidnapping of the two drivers.
The meeting regretted spread of false rumours about the kidnapping incident.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers Union has decided to stop supply of petrol until the economic blockade imposed on national highway 39 is lifted.
The decision was taken today in view of the attack of trucks coming to Imphal yesterday with security escorts.
Oil tankers were also damaged on August 2.Drivers of oil tankers stranded at Khatkhati held a meeting today and decided not to return to Imphal during the blockade saying the security protection given by the Government is not enough.
