In its first major initiative since the imposition of President's Rule in the State on June 2, the State Administration has constituted seven task forces to take up State's development schemes and also to oversee the problems arising during the implemen tation of the schemes.
The order for the constitution of the task forces was issued by the Principal Secretary Planning DS Poonia on August 8.The 11 member Municipal Administration Housing and Urban development Task Force will be headed by the Commissioner MAHUD as the chairman and the MAHUD Director will be member secretary.
The task force besides taking up Central schemes will oversee the fund positions of uncompleted projects.
The task force will conduct eviction on khaslands and settle pending cases within a fixed period of time.
Other duties include taking up of cleanliness drives in Greater Imphal areas and Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and planting of trees.
The Drinking Water and Maintenance Task Force will have five members with the Addl Chief Secretary PHE as the chairman and the Chief Engineer PHE (U) as member secretary.
This force will take up Central schemes and oversee the overall activities of supplying adequate drinking water.
The Health and Family Welfare Task Force will be headed by Commissioner Health.
The Health Director will be the member secretary.
The task force will have eight members.
This force will check the working of doctors and paramedical staff in remote areas and take up measures for proper supply of medicine, water and power supply to the CHCs, PHCs and PHSCs.
The Task Force for Agriculture and Allied Sector will have six members.
It will be headed by Addl Chief Secretary Agri with the director as member secretary.
It will work to increase fish and crop yields and supply of fertilizers to the farmers.
The 7 member Road, Bridge and Building Task Force will be headed by the Addl Chief Secretary (Works) with Chief Engineer (PWD) as the member secretary.
The duties of this force are to construct Government buildings including the Assembly Secretariat which were destructed in the June 18 uprising and dispose related cases, and oversee overall development of roadways.
The School Education Task Force will have four members.
Its chairman will be the Secretary Education (S).
It will check irregularities in appointment and posting of teachers and cut the number of teachers.
The Task Force for Higher Education will work under Secretary Education (U) and the Addl director Education (U) will be the member secretary.
The force will have five members.
This force will oversee the hike in fees of colleges and university and review court cases.
The post of the remaining members of the task forces will be occupied by respective head of departments, legal experts and officials of the Finance Department.
