Imphal, August 18:
The Manipur University Students Union, MUSU, has given the university administration and the teaching community, which are currently at loggerheads, a deadline of August 25 by which to resolve the ongoing crisis in the university and ensure resumption of normal classes.
The MUSU, in a statement issued by its president, N Jiten warned of an agitation by the student community of the university if this deadline was not met.
The Manipur University Teachers Association, MUTA,, has been on indefinite cease work strike since August 14 last demanding the resignation of the vice chancellor, Prof H Tombi, accusing the latter of all round inefficiency in university administration.
The MUSU, in a meeting today, adopted resolutions demanding the resumption of normal classes, paralyzed on account of the teachers' strike at the earliest.
It also demanded that pending examinations should be conducted and process of admission for the next session should be taken up immediately.
The meeting took the view that the present crisis in the university is on account of the lack of attention of the university chancellor, and Governor of Manipur, Ved Marwah, to the grievances of the student community in Manipur.
It also resolved that any consequences of the present crisis should be laid at the feet of the chancellor and the university syndicate.
