Imphal, August 02 2014 :
In protest against the abortive attempt of the Churachandpur Imphal Taxi Owners Society (CITOS) president to abduct JAC Tidim Road Bus Owners' Association secre-tary B Dhanabir in cahoot with IRB and AR personnel, the Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) has decided to suspend all kinds of transport services for 24 hours with effect from August 3 mid-night.
When the JAC Tidim Road Bus Owners Association was on strike deman- ding termination of Transport Department Inspector Dina, CITOS president D Lunkhulet Haokip of Tui-buong Bazar, Chura- chandpur repeatedly called B Dhanabir over telephone at around 9.30 pm of July 30 to talk about certain misunderstandings.
As Lunkhulet's repeated calls looked suspicious, Dhanabir informed police before he went to meet Lunkhulet.
As a result of his timely information, a police team was able to overpower D Lunkhulet Haokip, 1st IRB Havildar (presently attached to CID) David Lalhminthang and six AR personnel.
Lunkhulet and his team which included well armed AR personnel came in an i-20 car and a gypsy of olive green colour having no registration plate.
Speaking to media persons at their MG Avenue office today, TDC president H Ranjit condemned in the strongest term the alleged abortive attempt to abduct Dhanabir.
Ranjit declared that all types of transport service would be ceased from August 3 midnight till August 4 midnight.
However, vehicles on Integrity Day duty, education, religion and medical would be relaxed from the purview of the 24 hours protest agitation.
Moreover, transporters of the State would stage a protest demonstration on Aug- ust 4.Ranjit also sought termination of IRB personnel David Lalhminthang and imprisonment of D Lun-khulet Haokip.
A memorandum has also been submitted to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who is also Home Minister to look into the matter and take up necessary action against the AR personnel involved in the abortive abduction attempt.
Criminal cases may be initiated against vehicle owners who are operating passenger/commercial services without mandatory permits, said Ranjit.
The TDC president declared that they would be constrained to launch different modes of agitation if the Government fails to take up befitting action against all the culprits involved in the abortive abduction attempt.
