Imphal, August 02 2014 :
Observing that General, SC and OBC candidates will be affected at large if the Central Education Institute (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 is implemented in admission process in Manipur University, Joint Students' Co-ordinating Committee (JSCC) has urged the concerned authority to revoke the decision to implement the amended Act in admission to various courses in MU starting from the current academic session.
In a press meet held at the office of KSA here today, Th Premananda, convener of JSCC, said that a gazette notification was issued by Central Government for implementation of Central Education Institute (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 in Central universities and pointed out that the Act will not be suitable for Manipur as the State is included under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
Asserting that thorough discussion was not held before putting Manipur in the list of the States where the Act is to be implemented, the student leader questioned what MPs from the State were doing when the amended Act was passed in the Parliament in 2012 .
Informing that a meeting was held with Vice-Chancellor during which he was urged not to implement the Act in admission process in MU, Premananda cautioned that JSCC will resort to intense agitation if the Act is implemented in the State despite opposition from many sections.
