Information and Public Relations Minister Gaikhangam has promised to do his level best to develop the Information Department and improve relations between the people and the Government.
Speaking at a reception function organised in his honour by the staff of Directorate of Information and Public Relations this afternoon, Gaikhangam who has been recently assigned the portfolio, said that the DIPR has a great role to play especially at this critical juncture when the State is in turmoil.
He said he felt really honour in taking up the Information Ministry and said that he would be taking up every possible means to improve the Department and the service condition of the employees.
He assured that the grievances of the employees whose due promotion have been long delayed would also be looked into.
The Minister further said efforts would be taken up to expand the scope of the Information department as in other States where the department functions even at Sub-Divisional levels.
The Minister also appealed to the officials of the department to maintain good relations with print and electronic media both within and outside the State.
In his welcome address, Joint Director (Media Co-ordinator) Meghachandra Kongbram appreciated the commitments of the Minister to elevate the Information Department as a major department.
On behalf of the staff, founder secretary of Manipur Government Working Journalists� Association and present Deskman of the News Section of the Department, Chongtham No- diya Singh highlighted the problems being faced by the employees touching upon their nature of work, responsibilities and existing service condition.Commissioner of DIPR IS Laishram, Director Aleng AS Shimray and Joint Director Minlienkhang Vaiphei were also among those who spoke at the reception function.
Later the Minister went around to inspect different sections of the Department to take stock of their needs and requirement.
