Govt urged to help daily wagers

Expressing deep concern over the suffering of daily wage earners particularly women vendors due to imposition of curfew for a long time by the government for tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, Padamashri awardee Hanjabam Radhe Sharmi appealed to the government to chalk out a plan to pave way for these unfortunate people to survive and earn their livelihood.
In an interaction with media persons at her Wangjing residence on Friday, Radhe said that the curfew imposed by the government is saving the people from the virus but prolonged imposition of the restrictive measures has severely affected lives of daily wage earners and women vendors selling vegetables to support their families.
Finding no option, some vegetable vendors started selling their products at some corners of their localities but police prevented them and even destroyed the goods, she said and appealed to government to chalk out a plan to allow this unfortunate group of people to earn their livelihood so as to survive amidst the pandemic.
The Padamashri awardee also expressed her heartfelt condolence on the demise of many prominent personalities and leaders of the state during the pandemic and shared grief of the bereaved families.
