Imphal, May 21 2021:
Expressing concern over the problem of scarcity of water faced by people in Uripok assembly constituency amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, Uripok Kanba Lup has pointed out that the people of the constituency are in a dilemma of whether to tackle the pandemic or the water scarcity.
In a release, Uripok Kanba Lup president Meinam Mithai stated that despite the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to avail potable water in every household in the country, the said initiative seems to have excluded the people of Uripok.
In addition to the inconveniences faced by the people due to Covid-19 pandemic, around 70 per cent of the people in Uripok are surviving miserably and buying water from private tankers because of scarcity of water in Uripok, which is local ed right in the heart of Imphal.
The people purchase water from private tankers spending around Rs 300-Rs 400 per 1000 litre as it is very essential.
On the other hand, people availing water from the reserved line or VIP line that pass through Uripok Ac even use it to water plants and wash vehicles, Mithai contended.
Pointing out that the people of the constituency have been facing water crisis since last year, he denounced the MLA of the constituency who is also deputy chief minister for neglecting his own people.
There is an apprehension that the PHE minister might have plotted to make the people of the constituency suffer by not availing the water on narrow political grounds, he alleged.
Drawing the attention of the government, Meinam Mithai urged the chief minister and authorities concerned to look into the matter and solve the water crisis faced by the people of Uripok AC at the earliest.
