RIMS voluntary unit completes 11th year

The Voluntary Help Unit Committee RIMS Hospital, formed to provide medical assistance to individuals injured during the June 2001 movements, completed 11th years of its establishment today.
Presenting a brief account of the Committee's establishment during the anniversary celebration held today at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, Committee advisor M Subhashchandra highlighted that the Committee was formed specifically to look after individuals who suffered varying degree of injuries during the prolonged agitation that followed the violent June 18, 2001 protests.
Informing that the Committee cared and provided medical assistance till recovery or discharge of all the injured persons, the advisor maintained that the Committee sustained its service to the needy people well beyond the June 2001 movement.
Naming a few, he said that the Committee extended medical relief to individuals who were injured in agitations in the aftermath of the rape and murder of Thangjam Manorama Devi, bomb blasts in ISKCON temple, Paorabi and Ragailong, Tamenglong bus accident, Keishampat firing, Jiri road accident, Ukha Tampak ethnic clash, killing/wounding of migrant workers, Chingmeirong bomb blast, protests in connection with the killing of Kasom Khullen SDO Th Kishan and his two sub-ordinate staff, BT road firing, Lilong bus accident, Wangoi mishap that injured some mediapersons, Tata Magic accident at Malom and landslide tragedy on the Imphal-Jiri road that killed and injured some MR/IRB personnel.
While the Committee had been celebrating anniversaries by organising blood donation camps in coordination with RIMs Blood Bank, the Committee has till date organised 12 blood donation camps and 10 medical camps, Subhashchandra said who also pointed out that a joint souvenir with JN Hospital Helpline entitled 'Tribute to the Martyrs' Selfless Sacrifice' was also released at an anniversary celebration.
Among others, Prof A Meinya of RIMS, RIMS (IHBT) CMO Dr Y Bijoy and VHUC president Th Ashnikumar also attended the event.
