5 vehicles smashed in poll-related clashes

Imphal, February 17 2017:
In an election-related incident, at least five vehicles were shattered in a clash between supporters of two opposing intending candidates of the ensuing Assembly election.
The incident took place at Kyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai under Keirao Assembly Constituency in Imphal East district yesterday night at around 10.30.According to reports, Md Naseruddin @ Boboy, an Independent candidate along with supporters numbering around 100 attacked the residence of Alhaz Ayajuddin, another Independent candidate by pelting stones.
Naseruddin s/o of former Minister (L) Md Allaudin Khan is the uncle of Ayajuddin.
Speaking to media persons in connection with the incident, president of Keirao Kendra Youth Development Organisation, Md Mujibur Rahman said that the attack is an insult to democracy.
He termed the unprovoked attack as an attempt to stop Ayajuddin from contesting in the coming election.
He said that the clash came as a surprise as there were no animosity between the two intending candidates.
He contended that individuals involved in the clash have been identified through the CCTV camera installed at Ayajuddin's residence.
He declared that a complaint would be lodged each to ECI and police against Md Naseruddin.
