Power purchase agreement inked

Imphal, February 17 2017:
In a boost to the power sector of the State, a power purchase agreement was signed between Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) and Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) and 25 private individuals for taking up solar rooftop power projects.
The agreement was signed during a simple function held at the conference hall of Old Secretariat this evening.
The function was attended by Chief Secretary O Nabakishore, Principal Secretary (Power) Vineet Joshi and Executive Director of MSPDCL L Priyokumar.
Commenting at the occasion, O Nabakishore said that similar project had been taken up in the past with the objective of boosting power sector of the State.
He informed that 300 applications were received online out of which 25 individuals were selected for taking up the project.
He elaborated that of the 25 individuals, 22 are for net metering while the remaining three are for gross metering.
The consumers would produce 79 kilowatt of power, he said.
The Chief Secretary further informed that Ministry of Renewable Energy would sanction Rs 2.5 crore subsidy for the project, He announced that 70 percent subsidy would be given to each of the households which are going to generate the power.
Maintaining that the quantity of power used by the State at present is 150 megawatt, Nabakishore said that the Central Government is targeting to produce 50 megawatt of solar power in the State by 2020 .
Appealing to the people to take active part in producing "clean and green energy", he asserted that many countries have immensely benefitted from solar power plants.
He added that eight firms from the State have been recognised by the Central Government to take up such project.
