The 3rd Maharaj Kumar Priyobrata Singh Memorial Art Exhibition, a five day long art exhibition organised in collaboration between Arts Society Manipur and Manipur Cultural Integration Conference, began today at State Art Gallery, Palace Compound.
Maibam Maningou Singh won the 3rd Maharaj Kumar Priyobrata Singh Memorial Art Award, which contained a cash prize of Rs 20,000, a shawl and citation, for his painting 'Untitled' from among the 32 paintings by 24 artists displayed at the exhibition.
Another artist, Sorokhaibam Sanjib Meitei also received honourable mention for his sculpture along with a shawl and citation.
According to Arts Society Manipur secretary Th Heramani Singh, the exhibition is sponsored by retd IAS, RK Nimai and his family.
He pointed out that the main aim of the exhibition was to help in the recognition and appreciation of artists and their works and in doing so, honouring the contribution of Maharaj Kumar Priyobrata in the field of art.
Maharaj Kumar Priyobrata was an painter himself and the founder of Arts Society Manipur, he added.
Secretary of Art & Culture, N Ashok Kumar and Arts Society Manipur president, M Kulchandra, attended the event which marked the beginning of the five day art exhibition, as the chief guest and president respectively.
