Excise destroys seized liquor

Imphal, February 17 2017:
More than 10, 000 litres of local and Indian made foreign liquor were destroyed by setting it on fire at State Excise Department, Lamphelpat in the preence of Election Expenditure Monitoring Team, Imphal West Nodal Officer Salam Somendro today afternoon.
Speaking to media persons, DSP Excise Department, Irungbam Jatishwar who is also a State Nodal Officer of the Department said that the liquors which were destroyed in the presence of Election Expenditure Monitoring Team, Imphal West Nodal Officer and media persons were seized from different parts of Imphal West and Imphal East from January 24 .
He informed that 351 cases were registered in connection with the liquors seized.
He elaborated that the seized liquors include 10124.850 litres of local made liquor, 138.740 litres of Indian made foreign liquor, 3.345 litres of wine ands 38.700 litres of beer.
The Department has able to collect Rs 4, 54, 000 as the State revenue from the individuals from where the liquors were seized, he added.
Maintaining that the Department had destroyed a huge quantity of liquor following announcement of the election code of conduct for the forthcoming Assembly election, Jatishwar further informed that the Department has collected Rs 16, 52, 800 as the State revenue so far.
He said that coordination from police, Static Surveillance and Narcotic Cell made seizure of the liquors possible.
He appealed to women folks and club members to inform the nearest Excise office about selling of liquor in their areas to take up appropriate action against them.
