Legal awareness prog held

District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Imphal East in association with Legal Aid Clinic, Central Jail Sajiwa organised a one-day legal awareness programme on the theme "Justice is Truth" at Central Jail Sajiwa today.
The awareness programme was held under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Service Authority.
District and Sessions Judge Imphal East, Golmei Gaiphulsillu Kabui who is the chairman of DLSA Imphal East; secretary of DLSA Imphal, A Noutuneshwari Devi who is also the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East; SP of Central Jail Sajiwa, W Phatnitphang and advocate Salam Devan graced the occasion as presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, A Noutuneshwari spoke on plea bargaining of case by under trial prisoners.
Advocate Th Rajikishore who attended the awareness programme said that plea bargaining by under trial prisoners soon after charge were framed could lessen the sentence to be awarded against them.
He further said that pre bargaining can be done by those who commit crime with punishable offence of seven years.
Plea bargaining cannot be done by those who commit crime against women and underage children, the advocate explained.
Along with holding an interaction session between the presidium members and the jail inmates, theme songs of NALSA and MASLSA were played during the programme.
More than 200 jail inmates took part in the awareness programme.
