Imphal, March 09 2013 :
IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip has stated that it would not be difficult in realising the long standing demand of full fledged district status for Sadar Hills if there is peace and unity among different communities living in Sadar Hills area.
A foundation stone for the Sadar Hills District Sports Veteran Association was unveiled today at Veteran Home Ground, Ngahmun (Tujong area) .
The function also featured an exhibition football match between Sadar Hills veteran football team and KSC veteran football team.
Speaking at the function as chief guest, Ngamthang Haokip recalled that the State Cabinet adopted a resolution to declare Sadar Hills as a full fledged district in 1982 .
Controversies and disputes on the district boundary were also resolved after it was agreed that the boundaries of Kangpokpi, SaituGamphazol and Saikul sub-divisions would mark the boundary of Sadar Hills district.
But Sadar Hills district could not, somehow, come into being.
As such, it has not been receiving the benefits which otherwise it should get had it been upgraded as a full fledged district.
For Sadar Hills to attain the status of full fledged district, peace and unity are two fundamental prerequisites, Ngamthang asserted.
Saying that the Sadar Hills District Sports Veteran Association was established with the objective of restoring and promoting peace, the Minister claimed that the place where the foundation stone was erected would go down the history as a landmark.
Noting that the ADC's have been revived after a gap of almost 20 years, Ngamthang appealed to all the people to cooperate with the ADCs in their administration.
Fifty per cent of the Tribal Welfare fund and 50 per cent of MGNREGS works have been handed over to ADCs.
Saying that he has received reports about some village chiefs denying job cards to villagers, the IFC Minister called upon the people to cooperate with ADCs in order to check such anomalies.
MDC Lunthang Haokip said that the association was not for sports alone but also to provide a platform where Sadar Hills MLAs, ADC Members and Government officials can work together for development and study the possibility of upgrading Sadar Hills to the level of a full fledged district.
The function was also attended by Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen, ADC Chandel Chairman Lukhosei Zou and ADC Sadar Hills Chairman Haokholal Hangshing.
