Imphal, July 08 2014:
Intensifying its movement on the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) today staged a sit-in-protest at Kei-shampat Junction community hall today.
Speaking at the protest demonstration, a spokesperson of JCILPS questioned as to why the State Government is still unable to enforce ILP system in Manipur.
Various civil society organisations of the State start- ed a collective movement for ILPS implementation on July 4, 2012 .
After the State Cabinet gave its nod on July 12, 2012, the State Legislative Assembly also unanimously resolved to press the Centre on the enforcement of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873 in the State on July 13, 2012 .
Again on June 13, 2013, the matter was introduced in the State Legislative Assembly by MLA RK Anand, the spokesperson said and added the Members of the House once again resolved to urge the Centre to implement Bengal Eastern Frontier Regula- tion 1873 or any other suitable legislation with reference to Article 19 (5) of the Indian Constitution.
However, no positive result could be reaped from these decisions till date due to lack of political will, he said.
The spokesperson urged the lawmakers to discuss the issue in the coming Assembly session and take up serious steps to implement ILPS in the State.
Sit-in-protest on the issue was staged near Sangaiprou oil pump as well.
Similar protest demonstrations would be staged in Uripok and Chingamakha tomorrow.
Meanwhil, the Unified People Struggle Committee (UPSC), RIMS Road, Imphal in a press release issued by the committee's president M (O) RK Radhesana Devi pleged support in the struggle for implementation of Inner Line Permit (IPLS) in the State in order to protect indigenous people of Manipuri .
The struggle, Radhesana said, is not a struggle limited to an organisation or a union.
It is a struggle effecting the entire Manipuri people.
The State Assembly had twice resolved in favour of implementation of ILPS in the State but with no effect as such till date.
Radhesana further appealed the State Government for the implementation of the system before August 8, 2014 .
The Government's indifference, Radhesana added, seemed more like an invitation to a more tempestuous agitation.
UPSC declared that they would take the matter to higher authorities in case the Government yet again continues its indifferent attitude.
The all women's committee said that they are ready to take the matter directly to the country's capital city, Delhi.
They have, Radhesana said, even made a team of 50 women who would represent the State.
The committee further added that they would support the struggle to the best of their possibilities till the end.
