Imphal, May 29 2016:
ACOAM-Lup Kangleipak has said that many Government employees are drawing salary by simply sitting in their offices without discharging their duties.
In a statement, the organisation said that State Government's Food Safety and Standard Enforcement Wing is one such Department which is almost defunct.
Saying that Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) exposed a case of food adulteration on May 27, ACOAM-Lup observed that the Government and the Department concerned must appreciate the students' body for bringing the case to light.
It further said that different NGOs have taken the plunge to safeguard the society as many Government Departments and its employees have shied away from their duties.
The May 27 incident is a clear testimony of Food Safety and Standard Enforcement Wing's negligence and non-performance, ACOAM-Lup said.
It is known to everybody that certificates for food production have been issued to many companies and bakeries which do not maintain safety and hygiene, it added.
It is natural for civil society bodies and NGOs to act if the Government Departments forget their responsibilities and fail to perform.
ACOAM-Lup questioned whether these NGOs and CSOs should not be appreciated and rewarded for such good works done for the society.
