As sought by the Manipur Human Rights Commission, the State Police Department has submitted a report in connection with the assault of the Assistant Editor of Matamgi Yakairol, N Hemanta by IRB personnel on the night of January 18 at 9.20 pm at Moirangkhom.
As per the report, all the personnel except for Md Abdul Ghani had consumed alcohol while on duty.
The CO of 3rd IRB in a written information to the IGP (Ops/AP) stated that all the six personnel were taken to RIMS Hospital by SI G Rongmei for medical test.
Dr Ramesh Laishram, Senior Resident, Casualty Emergency Service, RIMS examined the personnel and verified that except for Md Abdul Ghani the rest had consumed alcohol.
A written intimation submitted by the IG (LO-I) to the DGP dated January 24 stated that after the assault, Hemanta was taken to the Old District Hospital where he was administered first aid.
MHRC was also informed that all the six personnel have been placed under suspension.
SI W Amumacha Singh of Imphal West District police who was deployed along with the six IRB personnel has also been placed under suspension by the SSP, Imphal West police for failing to supervise and control the IRB personnel deployed under his charge, the MHRC was informed.
