In a fresh development pertaining to the gruesome murder of Mayanglambam Sumatibala of Tera Tongbram Leikai on Dec 15 last year the main accused, Naorem Kiran has revealed during police interrogation that he committed the offence, a police report submitted before the Manipur Human Rights Commission said.
It stated that the main accused Naorem Kiran Singh, son of M Sanatombi of Uripok Khumanthem Leikai was arrested on December 21 and interrogated.
He fully admitted to have committed the crime during the interrogation.
Kiran revealed that he fell in love with the deceased Sumatibala and had been having an illicit relation since some years back and on the virtue of it, she pursued him to marry her at the earliest, it said.
Since the accused Kiran had another tribal woman as his wife he postponed marriage plans for another five years upto 2007 on the ground that he wasn't financial very sound at that moment.
Noticing his intention, the deceased woman warned him to compensate Rs 10 lakhs to her.
Unable to cope with the demand of Sumatibala he decided to kill her, it said.
On December 15 last year at about 6 pm he went to the house of Sumatibala with a sickle (thangol) hidden in his garment and committed the murder with the sickle and another dao found in the house, Kiran disclosed during the interrogation, the report added.
At the instance of the accused Kiran, police have seized various articles after recording his statement u/s 27 of the Indian Evidence Act under a seizure in presence of witness on Dec 26, it also said.
During the course of interrogation, ten prosecution witnesses have been examined by the Investigation Officer in the case and recorded their statements u/s 161 CrPC, it added.
The investigation of the case is almost completed and FF if being submitted soon as and when the expert opinion is received from FSL, Pangei.
Mention may be made here that the police had already arrested many suspects including the mother of Kiran.
Lamphel police has registered a regular FIR on the matter u/s 302 IPC.
