Imphal, November 25:
Following the complete evacuation of Assam Rifles from Kangla, the State Govt is set to fence Kekrupat, which is the abode of the June 18, 2001 martyrs.
Simultaneously, to give Imphal a new look, Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh has issued an order to demarcate all the roads leading to Imphal city.
Speaking to The Sangai Express an official source said that the decision to fence Kekrupat was taken during a meeting of the Kangla Board convened by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
The CM is also the Chairman of the Board.
Art and Culture Minister Ph Parijat, Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh and other members of the Board were present at the meeting.
The meeting of the Board, the first held since its inception, decided to chart out certain measures to monitor the flow of visitors who turn up to offer prayers at Kangla, said the source adding that the decision to fence Kekrupat was taken along the line that no part of the sacred Fort will be allotted to private individuals and organisations.
The Gazette on Kangla had already stipulated this.
The previous size of Kaugla was 236 hectares but now its area has shrunk by point 16, further said the source.
According to another source, the State Government will soon demarcate the roads leading to Imphal to ascertain encroachers on PWD land.
Shops put up on land belonging to the PWD will be identified said the source adding that the Chief Secretary has issued a written instruction to the Revenue Department.
Encroachers will be identified and shops built on pavements and encroachment on public drains will be identified and due action will be taken up, added the source.
The unprecedented demarcation drive will go a long way in giving Imphal a new look, said the source adding that the problems of clogged drains will be rectified to a certain extent.
