In connection with the indefinite economic blockade called by the ANSAM and KSO on the National Highways, security has been beefed up and necessary arrangements have been taken up to ensure smooth transportation of essential goods to the State.
The All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) and Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) have imposed the indefinite economic blockade with effect from midnight yesterday in protest against the Govt's indifferent attitude towards the hill people pertaining to education.
When contacted, SP Senapati dist told The Sangai Express that all the five police stations located along NH-39 in Senapati Dist have been instructed to stay alert to avoid any attempt to disrupt ferrying of essential commodities towards Imphal from outside the State.
Two battalions from the Assam Rifles and one from the CRPF which are stationed along the highway in the dist will also help in providing security to the goods laden vehicles, he added.
So far there as been no report from the police HQs for deploying additional forces, he said adding that if the situation worsens additional security forces will be called in.
Over one hundred good laden trucks coming from Dimapur towards Imphal are now presently stranded at Senapati, informed the SP and added that all the vehicles would be escorted out of the dist within a short period.
Stir threat: Members of the Kasom Khullen Sub Division Development Committee, Ukhrul Dist have resolved to launch a series of agitation in the sub-div from Nov 26 as a mark of protest against the Govt's failure to meet the demands of the committee.
Mention may be made here that the committee had been demanding the proper maintenance of Imphal-Kasom Khullen State Highway, restoration of power supply, setting up of power sub station Kasom Khullen Hqs etc.
