Imphal, April 15 2010:
As a mark of respect and paying homage to Late Major (Dr) Laishram Jyotin Singh, Information and Technology Centre was inaugurated by L (O) Abayaima Devi, mother of the valiant soldier, at Govt Higher Secondary School, Nambol.
It may be recalled that Major (Dr) Laishram Jyotin Singh, laid down his life while fighting terrorists and saving the lives of many civilians at Kabul (Afganistan) on 26 Feb 2010 .
A PIB (DW) press release stated that the IT Centre has been established by the Logtak Brigade under Red Shield Division as part of Military Civic Action pgme.
The IT Centre has been equipped with computers, printers, scanners, LCD TV, Projection system and peripherals including furniture.
The project aims to develop the IT skills of children studying in the school as well as serve as a memorial highlighting the sacrifice of Major (Dr) Laishram Jyotin Singh, a brave soldier of the nation.
The solemn inauguration ceremony was attended by Brig NJ George, Cdr Loktak Brigade, Col C Kartik Seshadri, CO 4/8 Gorkha Rifles and Dr Ibohalbi Singh, MLA Oinam.
The event was also attended by a large number of military and civil dignitaries as well as children from
different schools.
Mrs L (O) Abayaima Devi expressed her gratitude for the gesture by the Army in the memory of her son.
