On inquiring about the non functioning of the Municipal Council by the people, the Chairperson of Municipal Council (MC), P Ibocha said that the people have not paid the taxes with the result that the MC has suspended the work.
Objecting to such an absurd explanation from the authority the people appealed tothe Government to check the expenses of funds sanctioned by the Mahud Department .
The clubs set a deadline on April 30 to resume proper functioning of MC.
After this deadline they will lock up the municipal office.
Talking to the reporters at the Manipur Press Club on Monday, the President of Meeyamgi Thaudang Club Sugnu, Kh Ibomcha said that, the people along with the clubs will close down close the MC office if their demands are left unattended.
He further that the Chairperson of MC P Ibocha maintains that MC has not cleaned the place as shop owners of Sugnu market have refused to pay Rs 100 as tax.
The MC could collect about Rs 1500 which is not enough to pay the sweepers, drivers and other persons..
However when the members of the clubs and the people made inquiries about the tax collection, they found that the tax collectors had already handed Rs 60,000 as the time of tender announcement.
Hence the members of the clubs have demanded the removal the present Chairperson of Sugnu MC.
