IE police rewarded Rs 10 lakh

Chief Minister N Biren today rewarded Rs 10 lakh to Imphal East district police for successfully rescuing three labourers who were abducted by Kuki militants.
N Biren handed over the monetary reward at a function held at the Chief Minister's bungalow this evening.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the function, Biren said that reports were received today that three labourers have been abducted by suspected cadres of a newly floated militant group Kuki National Liberation Army (KNLA) .
Acting on the information, Imphal East district police launched a rescue operation at Kamuching forest area since morning.
In the course of the operation which was carried out at the initiative of the DGP, the armed militants opened fire.
A gun battle ensued and it lasted for almost two hours.
Later the three abducted labourers were rescued safe and sound.
The police team also recovered one AK rifle.
Even though the militants managed to flee away from the scene, further search operation is going on as so to nab the militants, said the Chief Minister.
He went on to claim that his Government always rewards good jobs and never hesitates in punishing wrong doers.
The police commandos are always ready to demonstrate that they are friends of the masses and fiercest enemies of the adversaries, Biren said.
Asserting that those unlawful elements would not be let scot free, Biren said that he has instructed the DGP to pursue the militants until they are apprehended.
Hailing the bravery of the commandos, Biren said that a commendation would be given to each member of the rescue team in addition to the monetary reward of Rs 10 lakh.
He also sought cooperation of the public to the Government's efforts to neutralise unlawful elements.
