The special general body meeting of Imphal Municipal council pensioners� Association after thorough discussion on judgement of the Gauhati high Court, appraisal to the Governor on problems faced by the retired employees and comment of its executive members resolved to pursue with conviction release of pension and other retirement incentives.
Members present (97) also decided to bear expenditures incurred in the legal tussle with equal responsibilities as well as to contribute five percent of the receivable amount (pending pension) towards development fund of National Highway 53 with the proposed amount to be handed over to the Governor.
Speakers during the meeting recalled of the Gauhati High Court judgement (May 2, 2005) for payment of at least 12 months pension to the pensioners followed by the member�s decision to file for appropriate legal action in authority concerned fail to oblige to the court ruling.
The meeting also expressed gratitude to the Governor for his keen desire and assurances to mitigate the pensioners� problem and took serious note of the Governor highlighting lack of cleanliness in the capital districts especially the main commercial areas, added an Association release.
Pensioners� rally: Manipur State Pensioners� Union has decided to launch a series of agitations starting with a mass protest rally at Imphal on October 21 in pursuance of its demand for revision of the State Government order holding payment of 12 percent of additional DR, full payment of 14 percent DR and leave encashment.
The Union has served an ultimatum to the Government in this regard and strongly decried indifferent attitude of the Government to its demand despite numerous memoranda and representations.
The decision to launch the agitations was adopted during a meeting of the apex committee of the Union on October 4.The meeting unanimously resolved to kick start the agitation with a mass protest rally at Imphal on October 21.
