Even as the youth slain by a combined security team at Langthabal Phura Makhong area last night has been identified as Sanasam David (25) s/o (L) S Shamu of Sawombung Gate, the victim's mother has alleged that her son was killed in a staged encounter and asserted that the body will not be claimed till justice is delivered.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, David's mother Bimola devi contended that her son left home yesterday morning telling the family that he was going to attend a programme of surrendered militants at 2nd Bn Manipur Rifles complex.
At around 9 am, David reportedly telephoned that he was at Lamlong Bazar on his way home after which there was no further communication as his mobile phone was in switch-off mode.
Conveying that the family came to know of David's death when they went to the morgue on being informed that a body lying there resembles David's features, Bimola also recounted that her son was supposed to go to Moreh in a day or two to attend another event for surrenderees at the 31 Assam Rifles' post located in the border town.
She admitted that David was a member of the armed outfit UPPK but deserted the outfit before undergoing training and subsequently surrendered to the Government.
While contending that there is no case registered against her son, Bimola reiterated that the body will not be claimed till there is clarity on the issue.
Recounting an earlier incident, she said on January 27 night at around 9, a commando team pulled up David from home and enquired about one Anand insisting that both are known to each other.
Asking David about Anand's whereabouts the commando team of Sekta police station threatened that misfortune would befell upon the family if Anand could not be traced in addition to assuring security to David if he could provide information leading to the arrest of Anand.
three days later Anand's arrest was published in the newspapers with the police accusing him of involvement in planting bombs, added Bimola.
Police had claimed of gunning down a youth at near Langthabal Phura Makhong last night in an encounter.
The victim turned out to be Sanasam David.
