Imphal, February 05, 2012:
The Assam Rifles authority has today refuted the news report which appeared in local dailies which reported that four women were hurt including two who received bullet injuries when AR personnel fired several shots to quell a mob in Moreh Ward No 4 near Gate No 2 yesterday.
Rebutting the news report, a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S) stated that the report was 'absolutely false' and 'baseless.' The AR had confirmed the presence of miscreants who had sneaked inside Moreh to disrupt the re-poll on February 4. Acting on the input, the suspected militants opened fire when the troops approached the target house and escaped towards the International boundary, the PRO re-asserted.
Keeping in mind the presence of civilians in the vicinity, the AR troops maintained strict fire discipline.
To ensure safety of civilians, the AR troops carried out controlled and aimed fire on fleeing suspects, it added.
Further, it clarified that at no point of time firing was resorted to quell the mob.
Asserting that no women were hurt or received bullet injuries, the AR authority said the same has been verified from Moreh Community Health Centre where they were reportedly admitted as per the news report.
