Th Birchandra Football Academy, Taobungkhok wrested the title of the 'Play Together for Manipur' football tournament with a 7-6 penalty shoot-out victory over 28 Assam Rifles at Lilong ground today.
With normal time and extra-time ending at 2-2 apiece penalty shoot-out was applied to break the deadlock which the Taobungkhok team eventually won by the slenderest of margin.
While all five attempts by Taobungkhok penalty takers were converted into goals the team's custodian effected one save from the rival side to provide the championship trophy.
Earlier, the keenly contested final saw both teams score the goals in the first half with Th Bipin opening the score in the 5th minute and taking his personal tally to two with a 38th minute strike.
Max of 28 AR emulated Bipin's feat by scoring both the team goals which came in the 24th and 37th minute.
The Taobungkhok Academy's Praveen and Suresh were respectively declared winner of the 'Golden boot' and 'Best Player' awards.
The closing ceremony of the tournament hosted by the Lilong post of 28 Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South), was attended by 9 Sector AR commander Brig Navneet Kumar as the chief guest while Commanding Officer of the host AR unit Col Sanjeev Kumar, 15 AR CO Sanjoy Ghosh and Imphal West ASP (Operation) Ishak Shah also graced the occasion.
