Imphal, June 24 2021:
The annual ritual of Sanamahi Chenghongba, also known as Inga Chenghongba of Sanamahi religion, was performed at Lainingthou Sanamahi Laishang located at Haying Khongbal Ufong Yumfam, 1st MR campus on Thursday.
Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board organised the annual ritual of offering rice to Lainingthou Sanamahi on the full moon day of Meetei lunar month Inga.
The ritual began with Pena Yakairol in the early morning.
According to the board, the ritual is related with the incarnation of Atingkok Maru Sidaba (also known as Atiya Guru Sidaba to some) as Lainingthou Sanamahi in the form of a three-day old child inside a pot, which falls on the full moon day of Inga.
It is the day on which Salairel Sidaba and Ima Leimarel Sidabi got Lainingthou Sanamahi as their son.
Sanamahi is believed to be the creator of human being and all living creatures in the world, and Sanamahi religion believers seek his blessings on the day by offering rice.
It is said that king Sendreng Pakhangba (BC) sought blessings from Lainingthou Sanamahi on the full moon day of Inga month for a son and he was blessed with a son who was called Nongda Lairen Pakhangba.
Similar ritual was also performed at Sana Konung Utra Shanglen and International Salai Punsifam headquarters at Lamsang among others.
