Imphal, June 24 2021:
Six student bodies - AMSU, AIMS, DESAM, KSA, MSF and SUK, have appealed to Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA) to reconsider their stand of boycotting conduct of online classes from June 30 in pursuance of their demand for implementation of 7th UGC pay scale in consideration of the academic career of students.
In a joint statement, the six student bodies also urged the government to look into the demand of the teachers and take up necessary steps to fulfil their long pending demands.
It also appealed to both sides to refrain from using student as their tool.
The root of the issue is the denial of rights of the teachers and the student bodies do not have any problem with teachers pursuing their demands, they said.
However, boycotting classes and examinations by the college teachers to exert pressure on the government will not be tolerated, the joint statement cautioned, adding that it is not justifiable for the teachers to violate the rights of the students to get their rights.
They can seek legal route to get their rights.
The Covid hit students have already lost several opportunities and both the teachers' body and state government should take the matter seriously and do the needful to fulfil the demands of the teachers at the earliest, the statement added.
