Ibotombi Trust's pension disbursement begins today

Moirangthem Ibotombi Memorial Charitable Trust, Heirok announced disbursement of pension from June 25 to elderly citizens and widows of Heirok who could not avail government pension scheme.
According to Trust president and former minister Moirangthem Okendro, pension to 1592 elderly people and widows will be distributed for three days at the door steps of beneficiaries with strict adherence to COVID-19 SOPs.
Informing that process is underway for transferring the pension amount to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, Okendro told newspersons at his residence on Thursday that the Trust used to distribute the pension amount to elderly people and widows not covered under government pension scheme twice, on June 7 and December 7 .
However, due to pandemic-induced lockdown, disbursement of the amount could not be done on June 7 and hence it will be disbursed from June 25 onwards for three days.
According to Okendro, the Trust started a pension scheme for elderly people and widows from 1995 and the pension scheme is still continuing till date.
The Trust also opened a land bank on April 11 last, the first such bank in Manipur, thereby enabling people having no paddy field to cultivate paddy on lease from the bank.
The land bank opened by the Trust has 314 Sangams of paddy fields belonging to different people of Heirok and opening such banks would not only help many people but also ease problem of food shortage at least to some extent particularly in Heirok AC, he said and thanked all those who donated land to the bank.
The press conference was also attended by key functionaries of the Trust and some noble people of Heirok.
