NFSA rice distribution in Wangkhei AC ceased

Imphal, June 24 2021: Just when newly appointed Fair Price Shop (FPS) agents of Wangkhei assembly constituency have procured the NFSA rice for the month of April, 2021 from the department and started distribution to the beneficiaries, DC Imphal East and officials of CAF & PD have blocked distribution and recollected the rice lifted by the agents.

Condemning extreme actions of the DC Imphal East and CAF & PD officials, newly appointed FPS agents of the constituency have lodged complaint to Wangkhei MLA Y Erabot at his Khurai Ahonggei residence and urged the MLA to take steps to draw attention of the government in this regard.

Transportation of NFSA rice for the month of April, 2021 for Wangkhei AC started from CAF & PD warehouse from June 22 but DC Imphal East and officials of the department recollected the same rice from agents, Wangkhei Kendra Development Committee Secretary Y Indrani told media persons on behalf of newly appointed FPS agents of Wangkhei at MLA's house.

Recollection of rice meant for the people of Wangkhei AC amidst the pandemic was not reasonable, she said, adding that agents transported rice from CAF & PD warehouse as per an order of DC Imphal East issued on May 19 after Y Erabot became MLA.

The order allowed new agents to transport rice from April, 2021 till March 31, 2022, she said and asked as to why DC and CAF & PD officials did not take such actions before the agents deposited money and completed formalities for rice transportation.

Agents would not have transported rice had there been such restrictions, she said, adding that CAF & PD minister and government should not remain silent on the matter.
