Paraolon ambush : Court gives custody of 'accused' to NIA

Imphal, June 29 2015 : Sleuths of National Investigation Agency (NIA) have formally arrested self-styled chairman of NSCN-K Amamchat Region, Khumlo Abi Anal, who is currently lodged at Sajiwa Central Jail, today.

Notably the NSCN (Reformation) had on June 13 issued a statement claiming that Abi Anal is the chairman of the Amammchat region of the NSCN (R) and is no longer a member of the NSCN (K) .

The NSCN-K leader has also been remanded to NIA custody till July 7 .

NIA team led by Additional SP of NIA, Guwahati made the formal arrest today.

Self-styled chairman of NSCN-K Amamchat Region, Khumlo Abi Anal alias Ambition Anal from Lambung village, Chandel district was arrested by a team of police commandos from Lamphel Supermarket in the second week of June.

He was produced before the Special Judge NIA, Manipur under Criminal Misc Case No 34 of 2015 with NIA reference case number RC -03 /2015/NIA �Guwahati under section 302, 307, 121, 121 A IPC 25 (I) (C) , 27 Arms Act 5 Explosive Substance Act and 16 16, 20 UA(P) Act State NIA versus cadres of NSCN (Khaplang) cadres of KYKL and cadres of KCP.

Additional SP of NIA through Special Public Prosecution NIA filed two applications before the Court of Special Judge NIA, Manipur� one for the formal arrest of Khumlo Abi Anal and another seeking custodial remand of the person for 15 days.

NIA Guwahati had submitted that the accused is required for thorough interrogation in connection with the NIA Case Number RC -03/2015/NIA Guwahati, registered in connection with the recent ambush at Paraolon in Chandel district.

Defence counsel on behalf of Khumlo Abi Anal objected the prayer for 15 days NIA custody remand and defended that the accused has already been interrogated by the NIA while he was in the custody of Lamphel PS and there is no need for 15 days custody remand.

After hearing both sides, the Court permitted NIA to make a formal arrest of the accused in the interest of fair investigation.

He has been remanded to the custody of NIA Guwahati till July 7 .

The Court also directed the NIA Guwahati to carry out medical examination of the accused thoroughly before taking him into custody and also to conduct such examination every 48 hours while in their custody.

Later, the Court fixed July 7 for further proceeding of the case.

It may be mentioned that the Amamchat Region of Government of People's Republic of Nagaland (GPRN-NSCN-R) had clarified in their press release some days back that Abi Alias Ambition Anal who was arrested by police commandos from Lamphel Supermarket area is not a member of NSCN (K) but the chairman of Amamchat Region of NSCN (Reformation) led by Wangtin Naga and Tikhak.
