Imphal, January 24, 2012:
Even as complaints have been lodged with the DGP and the Chief Electoral Officer against Imphal West SI P Tarun, SI P Maniratan and his elder brother P Nilakanta for their alleged criminal activities in connection with the forthcoming election, both the DGP and the CEO have been refraining from initiating any action, decried NCP candidate in Keishamthong AC L Ibomcha.
Speaking to media persons at NCP Thangmeiband office this evening, Ibomcha narrated that he was going for election campaign along with some of his supporters in three vehicles at Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai at about 8.30 pm of January 11 when about 10 commandos led by SI P Tarun, SI P Maniratan and his elder brother Nilakanta were spotted standing near Solar Union Club together with two vehicles embossed with the letters Imphal West 20 and Imphal West 21. The commandos halted Ibomcha's team and asked all of them including Ibomcha himself to come down from their vehicles.
Then SI Tarun, SI Maniratan and Nilakanta asked all the supporters to lie on the road.
Then the commandos started thrashing the political workers.
Brandishing their weapons, the Commandos threatened Ibomcha's supporters that they would be shot if they ever come for election campaign.
As a commotion ensued, local people came out and they rescued Ibomcha's supporters.
Stating that candidates would not able to go for election campaign in peace at the face of such extra-judicial activities of commandos, Ibomcha conveyed that a complaint was lodged with the DGP and the CEO on January 11 to take up befitting actions against the erring commandos.
