Imphal, May 21 2021: The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) have jointly urged President Ram Nath Kovind and Union Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal to expeditiously appoint a regular Vice-Chancellor of the Manipur University.

In a memorandum submitted to the President and Union Education Minister, the six student organizations stated that one Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University was removed by the Visitor of the varsity in February 2020 and a post was advertised for regular appointment in March the same year.

"The Ministry of Education, GoI had interacted with the shortlisted candidates for the appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University on August 19 and 20 of 2020.It is further learnt that the relevant committee had submitted a panel of candidates to the Ministry of Education.

However, for reasons not known, the appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor has not been finalized till date and it has created a lot of academic and administrative problems of the varsity...." the memorandum added.

It is also said that a copy of the memorandum has also been submitted to Governor Dr Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren.
