Hundreds of protesters from Leikot area in Kangpokpi district have urged the State Government to take stringent actions against Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Manipur activists who allegedly fired shots at a man who was accused of peddling drugs on September 16 last during a sit-in protest held at Damdei Taloulong, today.

BJYM is the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Enraged with the alleged unlawful activities of BJYM, people of Leikot area staged the protest demanding an apology for inflicting bullet wounds on the alleged drug peddler and cleaning of the village or area as per Kuki customary law.
According to the Kuki customary law, anyone who sheds blood must apologize by performing 'Toltheh' (cleaning of the village or area) .
Father of the injured person, Lhingneikim Kipgen stated that BJYM executives stopped his son Mangminsei Kipgen at Kanglatongbi Orphan near War Cemetery and fired shots in his left leg twice on the charge of carrying contraband tablets.
Mother of Mangminsei Kipgen, who is currently at Gamnom Sapormeina police station with a bullet injury, alleged that the BJYM executives led by its president Barish Sharma came in three vehicles and committed the 'ultra vires' act.
She said that the BJYM accusing his son of possessing a small arm (pistol) was totally false and baseless, claiming that her son doesn't have the capacity to buy a gun nor has any nexus with armed groups or gangs.
"Militants, drug peddlers, etc are to be nabbed and put behind bars by the authorities concerned which the BJYM is not," she added.
Leikot Area Youth Organization (LAYO) president Mangjangam Kipgen said that anyone can be a source of information to strengthen the war on drugs campaign but all are not authorized to take laws into their own hands.
"BJYM must apologize according to the customary law at the earliest", he added.
Chungson, chief of K Orphanage, said that opening fire in a place where many destitute innocent children are residing was unacceptable and as such the culprits must tender an apology as per the customary law at the earliest.
Chief of Leikot Mangsat Kipgen said that he will extend unconditional support to the police and other authorities concerned in nabbing a drug peddler from his village but will never accept when authorised groups like BJYM injured or shed blood of "my people' .
