Bodies threaten shut down

Imphal, August 10 2016:
Mapithel Dam Affected Ching Tam Organization (MDACTO) and Joint Redressal Council (JRC), Manipur have threatened to resort to a total shut down at all the hill district headquarters, National Highways and State Highways if the State Government fails to respond positively to their demands within 15 working days.
In a joint statement, the two bodies which represent seven tribal forums and three valley based organisations said that mass protests and peaceful rallies would also be staged to disrupt the inauguration ceremony of Mapithel dam if the matter of providing equal compensation to all the affected villagers is not considered.
The two bodies have been demanding the Government to provide compensation at par with Chadong and Lamlai Khunou villages to the villagers of Louphong Tangkhul, T Phaiyang, Nongdam Kuki, Nongdam Tangkhul, Maphou Kuki, Tumukhong, Bethelphai and the downstream villagers covering upto Itham and S Bongyang.
The dam is scheduled to be inaugurated in September this year.
