Imphal, August 10 2016:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has constituted a committee to probe the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) at the level of Assembly Constituencies.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, BJP Manipur Pradesh president K Bhabananda said that the 10-member committee would visit all Assembly segments to probe the implementation of NFSA.
The committee is headed by RK Shivachandra as convenor and K Sharat Kumar as coordinator.
Even as BJP has been monitoring implementation of NFSA in the Congress-ruled State, it has yielded very little positive results.
On account of the failure of the State to implement NFSA properly, a large number of economically backward people have been suffering immensely.
BJP Manipur Pradesh would make all efforts to rectify the lapses and discrepancies, Bhabananda said.
This does not mean the committee would be able to set NFSA totally straight yet but BJP would try to rectify the discrepancies at the best level.
The committee would carry out a survey in three phases.
The first phase would cover municipal areas while Greater Imphal and rural areas would be listed in the second phase.
The survey would cover hill areas in the third phase.
The final survey report of the committee would be sent to the Ministry concerned, said the BJP Manipur Pradesh president.
BJP Manipur Pradesh State election management committee Th Chaoba reiterated that the party would soon launch a mass movement against deprivation of the benefits entitled to NFSA beneficiaries.
Since NFSA was launched in the State in April this year, people have not been given AAY rice while a large of beneficiaries are yet to be given NFSA ration cards.
Chaoba went on to question as to why Manipur which has only some lakhs of people cannot implement NFSA properly while States like UP and Bihar which have crores of people have no problem in implementing the same.
The Centre has been allotting 1.51 lakh metric tonnes of rice to the State every month but the State's godown capacity is just 40,000 metric tonnes.
Chaoba then asked where have all the excess rice gone.
BJP would march to the Assembly against all the wrongdoings of the State Government regarding implementation of NFSA in the State.
A PIL was filed at the High Court of Manipur regarding implementation of ILPS in the State and the Court has held four rounds of hearing.
The committee's convenor RK Shivachandra said that the NFSA scam is one major scam witnessed in the State under the Congress Government after the Loktak scam.
BJP Manipur Pradesh would send a detailed report to the Centre so that the scams are investigated by an enquiry committee or the CBI.
Later the committee visited Keishamthong AC and Singjamei AC and enquired about implementation of NFSA in the two Assembly segments.
Patriotic music competition would be held at the party office between August 18 and 23.A prize distribution function for all the competitions would be held on August 31 at the party office, Somorjit said.
He added that entry forms can be collected from the party office.
