Imphal, June 08 2016:
The 15-hour cease work stir imposed by JCILPS affected normal life in the State capital today.
Although private vehicles were seen plying on the roads, most of the parking lots of passenger vehicles were deserted due to suspension of passenger services.
All the shops, business establishments, petrol pumps, cinema halls remained shut during the stir.
Government offices also recorded low attendance hampering normal functioning of these offices.
All the Ima markets and shops at Paona and Thangal Keithels also remained closed during the cease work stir.
However, some street vendors were seen selling their wares at Khwairamband market.

People who came to Imphal early in the morning faced inconvenience in returning home due to the sudden imposition of a bandh on Uripok-Kangchup road at different localities between BT flyover and Naoremthong bazar from 11 am in support of the cease work stir.
The bandh supporters placed tree branches and other objects on the road apart from burning tyres at Sorbon Thingel, Uripok RIMS crossing, Uripok Polem Leikai, Uripok Boys School crossing and Naoremthong bazar and Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai etc.
However, the bandh supporters gave free passage to media persons, school vans and essential services staff.
Some passers-by expressed dissatisfaction over the imposition of a sudden bandh as the JCILPS' call for the day was to stage cease work stir.
Police were seen deployed at various places along Uripok-Kangchup road to thwart untoward incidents.
Meanwhile, people clamped bandhs at Lamlai, Chalou, Nongada Leimakhongmapal in Imphal East district in support of the JCILPS' cease work stir.
Eight vehicles including three auto rickshaws, one Maruti Alto car, one Versa car and one Suzuki Access scooter were damaged by bandh supporters.
On the other hand, in response to JCILPS' call, people blocked road, staged sit-in-protest, formed human chains and raised slogans at different localities on Wangkhei-Irilbung road today.
No vehicle except for those on religious activities, media persons and emergency services staff were allowed to pass these localities during the stir.
Sit-in-protests were staged at Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi community hall, Wangkhei Puja Lampak, Wangkhei Meihoubam Lampak, Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai, Kongba bazar, Kongba Khunou, Kongba Kshetri Leikai and Irilbung bazar.
People also formed human chains and shouted slogans like 'implement ILPS in Manipur', 'convert the three Bills passed by the State Assembly into Acts', 'take up positive steps regarding the agreement inked between the State Government and JCILPS', 'State Govt cannot suppress the ongoing ILPS movement by announcing wanted tag on Kh Ratan and arresting students' and 'we condemn wanted tag on Kh Ratan' .
