Imphal, June 08 2016:
Andro AC MLA Th Shyamkumar has said that
he is ready to accept any punishment given by the people of his AC
in case former MLA Dr Nimaichand Luwang can prove that he
(Shyamkumar) has siphoned off National Food Security Act
(NFSA) rice worth Rs 34 lakh.
Speaking to reporters at his official residence, Shyamkumar
said that he would move the Court for defaming him and
showing the people of Andro AC in poor light if Nimaichand
Luwang fails to provide evidence and proof on the matter.
Imphal East DC issued an order to collect NFSA ration
cards with respect to Andro AC from Soibam Leikai commu-
nity hall on May 6.
Shyamkumar said that as the nobody came at the commu-
nity hall to collect these ration cards, he took all the cards and
handed over to fair price shop agents for distribution to the
beneficiaries of his AC.
According to 2011 Census, the population of Andro AC
is 48,729, out of which 42,398 are entitled to get NFSA rice,
the MLA said.
2,208 quintals of rice has been allotted to the AC under
NFSA for April.
The cost of the said rice is Rs 6,62,400,
Shyamkumar said.
The rice had been distributed to the people of the AC after
asking the public whether he could start distribution of rice
before ration cards were made available to all the beneficiaries,
Shyamkumar said.
Saying that DSO Imphal East is yet to complete preparation
of ration cards for Andro AC, Shyamkumar said that he had
received 648 only AAY cards from the authority concerned.
Upon enquiring why the AAY cards are not made available
fully, he had been told that many AAY beneficiaries must be
changed into priority household due to some technical problems, Shyamkumar said.
