This year's Meeyamgee Luchingpurel Chingusbam Akaba Ningshing Mana was presented to Golmei Makuichung and Sadokpam Thoungamba by Leisemba Sanajaoba.
The award carries a memento, a citation and cash incentive of Rs 10,000 each.
Speaking on the occasion, Leisemba Sanajaoba remarked that today's solemn function would pave the way for restoration of the bond of fraternity shared between hill people and plain people.
When the present generation cannot live in harmony, it would be impossible for the future generations to co-exist together.
The plan to build two statues of R Suisa and Ch Akaba at Hongmang Tangkhul village deserves appreciation.
Such idea of fraternity should be inculcated in the minds of all youngsters.
Youngsters can now understand the age-old bond of fraternity shared between hill people and plain people once they see the twin statues, Sanajaoba asserted.
V Weapon Zimik said that joint participation of hill people and plain people in different events/gatherings can be an effective means of fostering mutual love and respect.
Former Minister RV Mingthing asserted unity is crucial for existence of all communities of Manipur.
While Ch Akaba dedicated his life to rejuvenation and popularisation of Meitei Mayek, R Suisa worked relentlessly for unification of all communities of Manipur.
All the people of Manipur need to emulate the ideals of the two leaders and walk on their footsteps, Mingthing asserted.
It's time to forget all past misdeeds and look forward to a prosperous and harmonious future, he added.
Akhui Zimik said that self-restraint is one essential element for communal harmony.
It is the Government and UG groups which have been drawing lines of division between different communities.
Leaders should not think for a single community.
They should be guided by comprehensive ideals and principles under which all the communities can be seen as one and equal, Akhui Zimik said.
