Giving a serious consideration of the present turbulent situation in the state, the Governor, Ved Marwah, held a consultative meeting with a cross section of the people this morning in the banquet hall of the Raj Bhavan and resolved that every effort would be made to maintain communal harmony in the state.
For the purpose, the meeting also decided to form district and subdivision level peace committees.
According to a Raj Bhavan communiqu�, the meeting presided over by the governor, Ved Marwah, decided that both long-term measures for maintaining communal harmony be planned immediately.
It also decided that the minority people, both in the hills and valley, be provided full security to allay their fears.
The meeting further decided to appeal to the members of the United Committee, Manipur, and the United Naga Council to attend a joint meeting and resolve the issues among themselves, and also take up measures for ensuring communal harmony in the state.
The Governor, while addressing the meeting, appreciated the people of Manipur for their restraint and maintaining communal harmony.
He also noted that not a single untoward incident has taken place in the state, and he gave the credit to the people.
Stressing the need to ease tensions among the people, he appealed to the people not to be taken in by rumors.
