Assistant driver shot, hurt

Imphal, February 15 2013:
An assistant driver of a truck received bullet injuries when some unidentified persons opened fire at the truck at Mawai junction under Kasom Khullen police station in Ukhrul district last night.
The truck was transporting logs when it was fired at without any warning using sophisticated weapons at about 7.30 pm at Mawai junction between Kasom Khullen and Kasom Khunou.
A bullet hit assistant driver Pangambam Manisana (19) s/o Haridas of Yairipok Phanjangkhong Maning Leikai on the right shoulder.
He is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital.
Though, driver of the truck Thangjam Khamba belonging to the same locality as Manisana escaped unscathed, he was robbed off Rs 10,000 by the unidentified armed persons.
The truck belongs to one Khoirom Ibomcha of Yairipok Khoirom.
Police later recovered four spent cartridges of AK rifle ammunition from the spot, informed a source.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang (TNAL) has strongly condemned the incident.
Claiming that around 96 villages are within their jurisdiction, TNAL vice-president Raymond appealed to all concerned to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future and also not to disturb tranquillity in their area.
