Imphal, May 11 2011:
Management of Tribal Areas (MATA) director and social activist Victor Keishing has called upon the Tangkhul youngsters to widen their horizon and strive for excellence in sports among other professions.
Speaking at the inaugural programme of the second Open Premier League, an annual multi-sports festival, at Phungyar sub-divisional headquarters this morning as the chief guest, Victor Keishing, youngest son of six children of Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing, noted remorsefully that inspite of Manipur being a powerhouse of sports in the country there are not many sportspersons from the Tangkhul community who had excelled at the national or international level competitions.
Even though there is lack of sports infrastructure in the hill districts, especially Ukhrul district, and is understandable that such a disparity is one of the impediments in grooming world class athletes from among the Tangkhuls, substantial presence of Tangkhul population in the valley areas and their accessibility to modern sports infrastructure provides no room to justify that talented Tangkhul sportspersons are discriminated, he expressed.
