20th M Ibotombi memorial event held

Moiranthem Ibotombi Memorial Trust, Heirok observed the 20th Moirangthem Ibotombi memorial day today at his memorial complex at Heirok.
Led by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, State Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, Civil and Police officers floral tributes were paid to the portrait of former Minister (L) Ibotombi.
The attending dignitaries also observed a two minute silence in honour of the departed soul.
The memorial event was observed on the theme 'Fighting the menace of crimes against women and children'.
Speaking at the occasion, Deputy CM Gaikhangam recollected the works done by the former Minister during his lifetime.
He further expressed that the event would in a way spread a message to the masses regarding crimes inflicted upon women.

The Deputy CM further called upon the gathering to collectively pledge, "We would collectively tackle the menace of violence upon women." Only then the commemorative event would acquire its true meaning, he added.
The Deputy CM also handed over a newly constructed solar powered water lift irrigation pump to the people of Heirok during the event.
Gaikhangam then laid the foundation stone of a model village which would be exclusively reserved for 300 BPL families.
M Okendro, son of (L) M Ibotombi who is currently holding the portfolios of Education and CAF&PD said that the commemorative function was being organised in memory of not only his father but also other victims of gun violence.
He called upon all sections of people to let peace prevail in the society.
The Moiranthem Ibotombi Memorial Trust later distributed incentive award of Rs 50,000 each to two medical students of Heirok.
The function concluded with cultural dance and music performances by JN Dance Academy Imphal, Manipur Jagoi Marup, Songs and Drama Division Thoubal and other artistes.
