Ninety persons have returned to their respective villages of Marou and Shingta following return of normalcy in the areas, thanks to the intervention of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) president Ramthing Hungyo, its Speaker AS Yangkahao, United Naga Council (UNC) Information and Publicity secretary S Milan and Assam Rifles Inspector General BS Ghotra.
A few days back the situation in the areas was highly charged following the �locking of horns� between the Assam Rifles personnel and the NSCN-IM cadres with both the parties pulling up their loins for the show down, although, fortunately, nothing of that sort happened Tangkhul Naga Long and United Naga Council in a joint press-statement issued to Newmai News Network today said that the situation, as of now, was quite peaceful with normalcy fast retuning in the areas.
The release further said they (TNL and UNC leaders) had used the Assam Rifles vehicles in transporting the villagers to their respective homesteads.
Assam Rifles Inspector General BS Ghotra has assured the TNL and the UNC that no harm, threat or harassment would be meted to the villagers, added the release.
It stated that the social workers had interacted both the Assam Rifles Major and the NSCN-IM deputy commandant and urged them to maintain utmost restrain.
The release urged the Government of Manipur to extend all necessary relief measures to the affected villages to whose crops and plantations had been completely destroyed by stray cattles when the villagers were taking shelter elsewhere following the escalation of tension.
