Fuming with rage over the execution of the work for upgradation of a water supply scheme at Bungmual in Churachandpur district headquarters, PHE Minister Govindas Konthoujam has resolutely stated that necessary steps would be initiated to take up action against UP Jal Nigam, a Uttar Pradesh private firm which was entrusted with the task.
Govindas who went to inspect the progress of the Water Supply scheme being taken up with fund from Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR), along with a team of media persons, was infuriated on seeing that not even 20 percent of the work had been completed although an mount of Rs 1.92 crores had been released already and scheme has to completed within December this year.
The Minister closed down the scheme immediately, and firmly stated that said private firm would be taken to task.
It may be noted here that the State Government entrusted the UP Jal Ningam for taking up the work of upgradation of the water supply scheme which come under Zone II of the district which is divided into three zones after signing an agreement on March 15 last year.
Out of the total estimated cost, a sum of Rs 1.92 crores had been released to the firm as mobilisation fund in October this year.
The Minister also inspected the progress of the water supply work being taken up in Zone I and II.
The Minister informed that land development task of the water supply augmentation scheme to be taken up in Zone-III at Mata village with Khuga Dam as water source has been over.
But the progress has been stalled following land dispute with 19 Assam Rifles.
However, efforts are being made to resolve the matter at the highest level, the Minister assured while informing that laying of water pipeline for the first 2 kms of the total 6 kms had been already finished.
The Minister also inspected the water supply scheme to be constructed newly for Zone-I at an estimated cost of Rs 14 crores under NLCPR with water source from Koite and Loklao rivers located 15 kms from the district headquarters.
The Minister and his inspection team were accorded a warm welcome by the villagers of D Vaisom and K Mongyang.
Taking the opportunities, the villagers also drew the attention of the Minister for development of the road in the villages, improvement of village play ground and for setting up a tourist lodge at the village.
