Applications invited for virtual meet on PM-WANI

With an objective to increase awareness about PM-WANI to all existing and prospective stakeholders, North East License Service Area unit (NELSA), department of Telecommunications has informed that a virtual meet on PM-WANI will be held on September 21 at 11.30 am.
A release by Telecom deputy director general of Department of Telecommunications (DoT) informed that interested existing/prospective PDOs/PDOAs/citizens can submit their willingness to join the meet and even send suggestions or feedback at [email protected]/[email protected].
Link for virtual meeting will be shared with all interested participants in due course, it added.
PM-WANI (Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) is a scheme of central government meant to increase Wi-fi access throughout the country by setting up Wi-Fi hotspots.
It is aimed at helping accelerate the uptake of broadband Internet services.
The union cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of Department of Telecom (DoT) to proliferate broadband through Public Wi-Fi networks under the framework of PM-WANI.
According to the deputy director general, PM-WANI framework facilitates ease of doing business and encourages local shops and small establishments to become Wi-Fi Hotspot providers Public Data Office (PDO) .
The local shops and small establishments as PDOs may earn extra income from selling internet without any requirement of license, registration and/or any fees to DoT, the officer said.
