Imphal, June 11 2022:
Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) Manipur, Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) and Zeliangrong Students' Union (ZSU) have expressed dismay over the joint statement issued by ZZB (AMN) president K Akhang, Nagaland president CR Zeliang and Assam president Pauheu Newme and published in different newspapers on June 10 .
With reference to the media reports, a joint statement of ZB-Manipur, ZYF and ZSU issued by media and publicity cell of Zeliangrong Civil Organisations (ZCOs) termed the presidents' statement as wild allegation levelled against leaders of Zeliangrong Baudi and frontal organisations.
The presidents' statement related to the consultative meeting with the 7 NNPGs on June 7,2022 at Dimapur was totally wrong and baseless, the ZCOs said, and contended that prior information was intimated to Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) president over telephone regarding the invitation extended to Naga tribal hohos including Zeliangrong organisations of Manipur by the 7 NNPGs for a consultative meeting.
As there was no objection or reaction from the ZB-AMN president, Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN), it was considered and felt that attending the consultative meeting convened by different political groups engaged in the negotiation for peaceful political settlement is not a crime.
"It is also to make it clear that ZCO leaders right after attending the consultative meeting drove to Jalukie from Dimapur and had discussion at the residence of ZB Nagaland president CR Zeliang regarding the points and issues raised by the ZCO leaders during the consultative meeting with the 7 NNPGs", the statement said, adding that that the Jalukie meeting was also attended by ZB-Nagaland vice president Nicodim, advisor Joshua and ZB-AMN president K Akhang.
As per the Zeliangrong Baudi Constitution (Article 15 E (iii), (vi)) every State Unit is empowered to tackle and deal with any issue under its respective jurisdiction, therefore, it is the binding obligation to discharge its constitutionally empowered responsibilities in the interest of the people.
Hence, the joint statement issued by the presidents ZB (AMN), ZB Nagaland and ZB Assam can be considered as an infringement and clear violation of the constitutional provisions.
Regarding the vice president of ZB-AMN, it is made clear that there is one vice-president each for every state unit to oversee the overall affairs in consultation and coordination with the executives of ZB unit, the ZCOs elaborated.
Further stating that presidents of ZYF (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) and All Zeliangrong Student's Union (AMN) have Constitutional responsibilities and obligations to represent in any meetings, etc., in accordance to their Organisation's Constitutional provisions apart from the incumbent ZYF and AZSU presidents representing Manipur, it maintained that Zeliangrong being one of the Naga communities and stakeholders, it is imperative to appeal to the negotiating parties to bring political solution at the earliest considering the ground realities of the people particularly Zeliangrong people's position and situation.
Appealing to members of all the political groups to refrain from making harsh and intimidating statements which are against the peace process and wishes of the people, the ZCOs asserted that it would not hesitate to sit across the table and share with the leaders of the political groups in free and fair manner the grievances and the problems being faced by the Zeliangrong people, the joint statement added.
